Solid
steel belts can be tracked on a conveyor by several different
methods. The belt can be delivered plain, which requires some
external tracking method, or it can be furnished with v-ropes attached to
the bottom side. These v-ropes either ride in grooves or on the
outside of the rotating drums/sheaves.
Different
methods are used to attach a v-rope to the stainless steel belt.
Traditional bonding methods for v-rope attachment, which are still being
used by most steel belt suppliers, can only stand low temperatures down to
-35ºC and high temperatures up to 80ºC. If the drive
rope is exposed to lower or higher temperatures it becomes
loose and cannot track the steel belt any more.
Contibelt
has a unique technique for attaching v-ropes to the steel belt.
This direct vulcanisation method is using unvulcanised rubber, which is
vulcanised directly onto the belt. The Converope material and
bonding method can be specified to handle temperatures as low as
-50 °C and as high as 135 °C. Working life in normal
applications is therefore greatly increased.
